  Introduction Olecranon bursitis , commonly referred to as “student’s elbow” or “baker’s elbow,” is an inflammatory condition affecting the bursa located at the tip of the elbow. Anatomy of the Elbow and Olecranon Bursa The elbow joint consists of the humerus, radius, and ulna. The olecranon is the bony prominence at the back of the ulna. Overlying the olecranon is the olecranon bursa — a small, fluid-filled sac that cushions the skin and soft tissue from friction during elbow movement. Pathology of Olecranon Bursitis Olecranon bursitis arises when the bursa becomes inflamed, often due to repetitive pressure, trauma, infection, or underlying systemic conditions such as gout or rheumatoid arthritis.
